There many reasons why we should NOT buy bottled water including:
- Estimates $100 billion spent on bottled water each year worldwide. This is a big business, bottled water cost almost 3 times as much as gasoline. A 20 ounce size bottle is sold for at least a $1.00, that is 5 cents an ounce. In the U.S., the average price per gallon is around $3,00. There are 128 ounces in a gallon, that is only about 2 cents an ounce. The same 20 oz. serving of water costs $00.0050 if you just filter your own water at home. Now you see why this is a big business.
- Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year, this plastic requires up to 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce. A recent study concluded that as much as 2,000 times more energy is spent producing and distributing bottled water compared to using tap water.
- Over 80 percent of these plastic bottles are simply thrownaway. These bottles are a major contributor to landfill waste in the world’s major oceans. This represents a great risk to marine life, killing birds and fish.
- Water privatization. Water is being called the “Blue Gold” of the 21st century. Multinational corporations are buying groundwater and distribution rights wherever they can, worldwide, especially in the poor countries. The bottled water industry is an important component in their drive to commoditized what is a basic human right: the access to safe, clean and affordable water.
- Bottled water is not much different from tap water, both fall under the same regulation of the Food and Drug Administration. Bottled Water are not any healthier than tapwater. Actually there are many heath effects created by the plastic.
- Not only does bottled water lead to unbelievable pollution outside, but plastic has chemicals in it which is involved in a great deal of the health problems that we face from the inside, including cancer.
There is a much better and healthier alternative to bottled water and it is very simple. Buy a reusable stainless steel thermos/bottle, and take with you everywhere. Use water filter at home, it will turn most tap water fresh, also many grocery stores now have water dispensing machines that sell filtered water by the gallon, all cost fraction of the bottled price.
Now is the time to make that simple shift, protect your health, save your money and the environment, and make a difference today, right NOW. Finally don’t forget to pass this information to your friends, invite them to do this simple action and help create a positive impact.
Stay Positive and Live Consciously!
